The connection between the gender pay gap and health

Date & time:
September 27, 2022 3pm EDT

Women in the U.S. earn little more than 80 cents for every dollar white men make, and the gap is even wider for women of color and those living in rural areas. The gender pay gap exists in almost every county across the country. Researchers have found connections between the gap and worse physical and mental health. In addition, the gap contributes to poverty, which influences long-term health for women and their families and slows economic growth. During this webinar, we will learn more about why the gap persists and how the COVID-19 pandemic worsened it. We will also learn how to message the need for pay equity while exploring policies and practices at the federal, state, and organizational levels to achieve it. We will be joined by YWCA San Antonio’s Misty Harty, director of racial justice and gender equity, and Corin Reyes, director of health equity. Harty and Reyes will introduce us to a campaign promoting pay equity that is prompting all sectors, including businesses, to take action.

County Health Rankings & Roadmaps will host a one-hour interactive virtual discussion at 4pm ET, immediately following the webinar. We encourage you to participate in an engaging dialogue with peers across the country to share your experiences with equity. Mark your calendars and plan to stay as long as you're able.
